The DevOps paradigm is now a well understood and accepted concept. However, its practical implementation within certain scenarios still leads to the creation of anti-patterns that undermine the realisation of core DevOps benefits such as continuous delivery.

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) focuses on improving the customer and client experience. SRE can reduce or remove much of the natural friction between development teams who want to continually release new or updated products, and operations teams want to be absolutely sure there are no problems before release.

Elliott Berg, Lead Platform Engineer at The Home Office, will cover key challenges when implementing DevOps with a large delivery portfolio and how the adoption of SRE and the drive for product centric delivery teams has been used to improve flow, reduce toil and improve user experience.

Lead Platform Engineer at Capgemini


Summary

As a lead engineer in Capgemini's public sector platform engineering practice, Elliot spends his days working with UK Government organisations to build their cloud native platform capabilities and continually evolve them. Elliot’s experience includes development, operations, DevOps and site reliability engineering exposure gained from a variety of both private and public sector clients. As a generalist by nature, a typical role involves leading an engineering team or providing architectural oversight for platform services.

Will McGeehin

Head of Software Engineering, Home Office


Summary

Will McGeehin has over 10 years IT industry experience and has spent the last two years supporting Home Office in the development of their Software Engineering capability. Prior to his time at Home Office will lead a development team focusing on work across government, security, defence, and aerospace with exposure to a broad spectrum of tools and approaches. He also maintained a solid stream of assurance work looking primarily at regulated/safety critical software delivery. At Home Office, Will is currently leading work to reinvigorate technical recruiting practice, develop central guidance and standards for our technologists and develop a broad Software Engineering/DevOps community.
